Nyack College Voter Registration - Float the Vote
On Monday evening of October 1, 2012, the brothers of the Xi Lambda Lambda chapter were out in full force to "Float the Vote" as they registered students at Nyack College in Nyack, NY. The students were treated to ice cream that was provided by the college - this provided the chapter brothers with a constant flow of traffic. The students then began bringing other students by to be registered, at this point the applications were almost depleted.
Bro. Dennis McGloster, committee chairman stated in response to the number of students registering "...at this late stage of the voting registration process this was a very good number." It was interesting to see two students running up to us as we were leaving and asked could they still register - we only had three applications left. This suggested that we should hit these colleges a bit earlier next time.
In the four days spent in voter registration, Xi Lambda Lambda was able to register 30 students from Rockland Community College, 9 from the Finkelstein Library and 59 from Nyack College for a total of 98 new voters.
Our next event will be on Thursday, October 11, 2012, as we co-sponsor the Candidates Forum with the Spring Valley NAACP and Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. The Forum will be held at the Louis Kurtz Center at 9 North Main Street in Spring Valley, NY 10977. Details to follow. Contact Bro. Dennis McGloster at 845-323-2548 or email at lifetimeq@aol.com.
