ROAD Trip to the Jackie Robinson Museum in NYC

New York, NY (February 11, 2023) - The mentees of the Rockland Omega AcaDemy (ROAD) mentoring program travelled with the mentors (Xi Lambda Lambda chapter brothers) to tour the newly opened Jackie Robinson Museum.  The museum is dedicated to this American icon and his wife Rachel and is located on Varrick Street in lower Manhattan (NYC).

The museum had a lots of information and memorabilia for all age categories. Every photo on the walls had a written narrative that describes the event(s) within the photo(s).

Another fascinating area was the roughly 50 plus audio presentations given by well-known African Americans and other noteworthy celebrities - who overcame obstacles in their life to become successful in various disciplines. To operate the technology one only had to lift up a phone next to speaker and punch button for the roughly 5 minute presentation.

Throughout the museum (in addition to the interactive materials which were usually in a glass case) memorabilia from Jackie Robinson’s life (baseball uniforms, military uniforms, Negro League jerseys, life-sized statues, and etc. were on display all over museum.

To top the day off each of the mentees created a Valentine’s Day card for Mrs. Robinson that was being mailed to her in California by the museum along with cards created by other visitors.
